About the Author

Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Hosseini moved to Iran, Paris, and San Jose, California, seeking political asylum after the Soviet invasion. He graduated from Santa Clara University and later earned an M.D. and practiced medicine in Los Angeles. Hosseini is a Goodwill Envoy for UNHCR and works with the Khaled Hosseini Foundation for humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan.
